The research that I have done into the thriller genre has shown me that thriller films are one of the less popular genres of film, ranked as the fifth most popular genre of film since 1995 to present.
The Dark Knight (2008) an action thriller, was ranked 5th between Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest and Harry Potter & the Sorceror's Stone in the top 20 grossing films of all time in the US. The Dark Knight has raked in £1, 000, 245, 358 globally since it's release with an estimated budget of over £180m.
